The Sad Story Of The VCR
These handy items are the focus of the living room, not long ago. They make life more convenient and fun. You do not have to miss your favorite television shows. Record them and watch them anytime. Video rental stores pop up on the landscape, almost overnight. All types of funny moments and criminal activity is now caught forever on tape. Yet, this amazing invention is fading into the sunset. It is becoming extinct.
Many items are traveling the same path. Yet, some of them appear to be immune to the process. The electric hand mixer is a good example. They are seen in most kitchens of today. Somehow, they manage to withstand the test of time. The VCR is not faring as well.
Perhaps it is due to the fact that something has replaced it. The DVD is simpler and easier to use. There is no tape to get tangled and messed up. You do not have to rewind a DVD movie either. It is easy to send them in the mail. When species go extinct, they are often replaced by more efficient counterparts.
Some things disappear and come back. The hand blender is an example. They are a popular product in the near past. Then they disappear. Now they seem to be coming back.
And yet, some items are replaced and still survive. Take the manual can opener. The simple crank type openers are still in demand. There are many electric can openers that work well. Yet, the hand operated one, still retains a great deal of popularity. Maybe it is partly due to their portability and reliability.
Some appliances reach a certain point in their evolution and stall. Look at the countertop microwave. There have been some basic improvements like turntables. They make ones with convection options. Some will fit over your range. However, they are still the same item. Their price is much cheaper. Nothing seems to have replaced their basic function.
The VCR is not a perfect invention. Perhaps this is part of the reason for its fall. The VCR can be problematic sometimes. Be careful how you insert the tape. The machine may eat it. They are not always easy to connect to television sets. It can be hard to program them. Hence, the many flashing twelve o'clock images.
Final thoughts
The VCR is an invention that is on its way out. Maybe it is due to modern technology. Enjoy your appliances while you can. Some day they may travel the path of the dinosaur.
Good/Cheap DJ Software? Turntables? Mixers?
I'm a beginning DJ and would appreciate any suggestions for DJ softwares, turntables, and/or mixers or even places to go for DJ equipment.
I am in the Los Angeles area, in case that helps with suggestions of where to shop.
Like everything out there in the market, there is a wealth of choices for DJ software, turntables, mixers and places to go for DJ equipment.
Since I am not sure where you are located, I would ask people who DJ around your area for suggestions to local DJ stores because there is nothing better than being able to talk with the guys/gals at a DJ equipment store (not only they sell the stuff and use it too) but you get to test drive the equipment.
Yes nothing is more important than finding the equipment you feel comfortable with and that works within your budget.
If you cannot locate any DJ equipment stores, I am sure you can find a Guitar Center nearby.
As for online, you can check out prices at PSSL.com and planetdj.com.
I would first recommend you get a mixer and 2 turntables as a start. Work with vinyl and get comfortable mixing. You can graduate to DJ software programs after you are vinyl savvy. As for recommended DJ software programs, there are plenty to choose from. What it will boil down to is cost and your style of DJ'g.
Good luck!
DJ Cassidy Acts as a Musical 'Bridge' to the People (Including President Obama) (Spinner)

_Want to talk about realizing your childhood dreams? DJ Cassidy got his start
in music as a fifth grader and has since manned the tables for some names you
might recognize (good pal Jay-Z, President Obama and Oprah, among many
others). The world-renowned mix master recently chatted with Spinner RPM about
his party strategy, how he discovers new music and what it's like to DJ for
the commander in chief. As a bonus, he also offered up a 10-song holiday
playlist called 'Vanilla & Cinnamon,' which he describes as "music to get you
warm when the weather gets you cold." Check it out below._
**You started Djing at 10 years old, and since then equipment has changed
quite a bit. What would equipment would you purchase for a 10-year-old now?**
The equipment actually hasn't changed all that much. I recently hooked up my
new 8-year-old artist, Fulano, with a home setup. He's a DJ, rapper and actor
and is way more advanced than I was at 10. The Technic 1200 turntables he has
are actually the same exact model I had in 1991. The mixer ...
