What to look for when buying a turntable?
so i accidently bought a vinyl album on eBay. and i dont feel like re-selling it. plus fathers day is coming up and my dad has a lot of vinyl stashed away. i've heard good things about Numark and i was looking at this on eBay http://cgi.ebay.com/Numark-TTUSB-USB-Turntable-Vinyl-Record-Player-CD-MP3-/220613914686?cmd=ViewItem&pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item335d9d303e but i don't think i really need to be able to convert to mp3. i just need to play the records. so does anyone have reccomendations? i'm looking for a reliable brand preferably no higher than $100.
For $100.00, there's not a lot of difference among different turntables. You might as well have the USB option because it doesn't seem like you'd be paying much extra for it (if anything extra). I think most of the cheaper tables have a USB output now... This one's manual instead of an automatic that will turn itself off when the record's over. Looks like you get slightly better build quality and a decent tonearm that accepts standard 1/2" mount cartridges for choosing manual over automatic though. This table seems like a good choice and I don't think you could do any better for $100.00. Changing the cartridge to something that tracks a little lighter and takes an elliptical stylus eventually would get you cleaner tracking and a better frequency range. The cheap cartridges with conical styli that come on all turntables in this price-range aren't the cleanest sounding. The elliptical "Red Ed" for $27.95 might be an economical upgrade...

Good luck! Hope you enjoy whatever you choose!
EDIT:
That Gemini recommended by a guy where you asked this same question again looks pretty nice. The tonearm looks maybe a bit better than the Numark and the ability to adjust pitch is nice. Tables with non-adjustable speed in this price-range tend to drift fast or slow after awhile. Wouldn't have to worry about that with the Gemini. I'd be very tempted to grab one of those.
