Using a PS3 with a monitor?
I have a widescreen PC monitor of which the native resolution is 1920x1080 (1080p). However, the monitor does not have an actual HDMI socket, instead it has a VGA socket.
So, if I got an HDMI to VGA cable such the one listed below, and hooked it up from a PS3 Slim to my monitor - would it display in 1080p HD or just regular standard definition?

That will NEVER work.
Those HDMI-VGA cables are passive cables intended for video cards that have a specially-built HDMI port capable of sending out a VGA signal. It will NOT work with just any HDMI port.
The PS3's HDMI port is NOT one of those specially-built ones. It will NEVER work with that passive cable. If you attempt to use that cable, you will get NO image.
The PS3 has NO native VGA support. NONE. You will NEVER be able to connect it to a VGA-only monitor without some sort of signal converter box, or cable with an active signal converter chip built into the connector. And even then the image quality will be quite bad.
You want to run that PS3 properly, get an HDMI-equipped 1080p monitor.
