Kids Activities That Develop Skills
Many parents want their children to be involved with after school activities, only they don’t know what activity will be best for their children. Oftentimes, they settle for just what is near their home or what their budget can afford. If it involves, music lessons, then the child got lucky. However, if more parents knew about the additional skills that music can give to their children, then they would definitely go seek out the singapore children music classes. Recently a study conducted by the University of Toronto showed that children music lessons or even voice lessons had a positive effect on children’s IQ. Four groups of 6 year olds participated in the study. The first group enrolled in piano lessons, the second in vocal and the third took a theatre class, while the fourth group had no activity whatsoever.
Before the study started, the children were made to take IQ exams and their results were noted. The kids then went to first grade, and to their respective activity. At the end of the year they were again tested for IQ’s and the results were varied.
All of the children had about a 4 point increase which was due to their school, however the kids enrolled in music classes had an additional increase of almost 3 points, where the students involved in theatre had no significant increase.
Scientists believe that the reason for this increase is because music has many dimensions and learning to master all the different facets takes several brain functions. Learning things like music interval, chords, memorization, and expression, exercises the child’s entire brain. If your child starts musical lessons early you may see a significant growth in their reasoning skills.
Curiously, the same study was tried on adults, and their IQ’s didn’t show any marked increase.
Whether this study is a significant reason or not for enrolling children in music class, only you can determine, but if your children show an interest in music, or you are thinking of enrolling them in some type of after school activity then you should really think about some type of music class.
Music is fun for kids. It makes them more self confident, socially accomplished and more knowledgeable about important school subjects like math. It may just be fun for these kids, but we all know that they are developing many other skills along with having all that fun. Music brings joy, fun, and intelligence to your home. What more can parents ask for from an after school activity.
